Roosevelt 2nd Alarm House Fire

The Roosevelt Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fully involved house fire on March 26, 2011. The fire was quickly upgraded to a "2nd Alarm" due to the heavy volume of fire and the high wind conditions fueling the flames. Live power lines that were down in front of the house also hindered efforts to set up fire operations. Multiple hoselines from Engine 731 and 733, along with the deck guns on 731 and Tower Ladder 735 (which had to cut down parts of a tree to get the bucket into position) were used to knock down the bulk of the fire. It took approximately 2 hours to control the fire. The 2 surrounding houses suffered moderate heat-related damage. The homeowner was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. This was the 2nd fire for Roosevelt FD this week. Extensive mutual aid was called from neighboring departments, including Merrick, North Merrick, and Uniondale. I apologize for the excessive movement at the end of this video. A sudden wind shift blew a large column of smoke in our faces and we also got blasted by a water stream from one of the engine crews. It's all part of the job.
