Interpreting that strange dream you had last night can be not only fun but insightful.
Freud famously called dreams "the royal road to the unconscious" so your dreams might contain hidden messages from your subconscious mind.
Read on for a specific method to unlock the truth meaning of your dream as used by expert dream analyzers. Try it, it works!
PREPARATION
First, keep a notebook and pen by your bed and write down your dreams in as much detail as possible the moment you awake. If you wake up in the middle of the night, try and note down your dream as well, since on average we have up to seven different dreams each night.
"I AM, I NEED" DREAM ANALYSIS METHOD
Expert dream analyzers have come up with the "I AM and I NEED" formula to help interpret the true meaning of your dream.
Once you have written your dream down, get two different colored pens. With one color, underline the negative words or phrases. With the other color, underline the positive words or phrases. Now make two lists. One list should be labeled "I AM" and you put all the negative words there. Label the other list "I NEED" and write down all the positive words.
Now you are almost ready to analyze your dream.
Consider the subject matter of your dream. If you are unsure, think about the location in which your dream has taken place.
Next you take each of the phrases or words in the "I AM" column and fit them into the following sentence:
"WHEN IT COMES TO (subject matter) I AM (phrase or word)"
You can change the phrase to make the sentence make sense. If you are really stuck on the subject matter, then apply the words to yourself in general. The exercise tells you how you feel or react to the subject of the dream.
Once you have done this, read through the "I NEED" column and consider what you must do to correct your problem. Put each of the phrases or words into the following sentence:
"WHEN IT COMES TO (subject matter) I NEED (phrase or word)"
Let's look at an example. Maybe you have dreamed of a dead woman lying on a prickly, hard concrete floor. So the negative words are 'dead', 'prickly' and 'hard'. In dreams, women can represent emotions so let us say that is your subject matter. Your sentence would go like this:
"When it comes to MY EMOTIONS, I am DEAD"
"When it comes to MY EMOTIONS, I am PRICKLY"
"When it comes to MY EMOTIONS, I am "HARD".
The meaning is pretty clear now, isn't it? By using this simple technique we have learned a lot about ourselves. Now you have the methodology you need to start analyzing your dreams. It will take practice so be patient. Also, do not forget that dream interpretation is seldom an exact science so consider carefully the consequences before making any dramatic changes in your life because of your dreams.
